Workforce Development
The National Workforce Institute (NWI) was founded in 2005 to address the professional development needs of the public workforce system. NWI is a fully-owned subsidiary of Learning Designs, Inc. and provides consulting and training services to workforce organizations in multiple states. Consulting services include needs analysis, competency mapping, value stream mapping of work processes, development of standard operating procedures, and creation of survey instruments to measure customer satisfaction. NWI also provides training for workforce professionals and job seekers in both traditional and online formats.
In 2019, NWI became the training provider for the first DOL-approved Workforce Professional Apprenticeship program in the country. Sponsored by Workforce Solutions of Central Texas, the program allows staff to earn a Journeyman Workforce Professional credential.

RESEA Staff Training
This training is intended for all workforce staff who provide or supervise Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) services to UI claimants. Enhancing RESEA with Evidence-Based Interaction Strategies is a five-part training series focused on using evidence-based interaction skills to improve outcomes. Each 90-minute session is web-based, live, and includes case studies from real-world scenarios. Participants will receive sample scripts, opportunities to practice, and job aids for future reference.

Apprenticeships for Workforce Development
Apprenticeships today are available in more than 1,000 professional occupations including Healthcare, Information Technology, Energy, Transportation, and… Workforce! Registered apprenticeships improve employers’ recruitment and engagement strategies by providing opportunities for employees to gain skills while working. Through a combination of on-the-job training and formal instruction, people are transformed into the high-potential workers every employer dreams of engaging. Apprenticeships are a win-win proposition, because employees receive a nationally-recognized industry certification and a solid career.
How do apprenticeships work?
Staff have the opportunity to earn a Journeyman Workforce Professional credential in a specialty track by completing a combination of on-the-job training and related instruction over a two-year period of time. Employees gain knowledge and skills related to research-based workforce competencies while they learn to complete specific job tasks. To meet DOL reporting requirements, the program also includes a learning management system (LMS) that hosts and tracks online courses, local classroom offerings, and task lists which document work performance. Experienced staff can test out of competencies and credit for training.
