Map the Current Fulfillment Process
- Conducted interviews with key staff in external Circulation Department (Circulation is the client served by the Fulfillment Department)
- Conducted interviews with all Fulfillment Departmental employees
- Observed actual work processes, including approximate times for each function in the process
- Conducted focus group meetings to map the current process, including metrics and identification of internal and external customers
Improve the Fulfillment Process
- Used value stream mapping to eliminate waste and streamline work processes
- Established new metrics for supporting the new process
- Conducted focus group meetings to validate the new process
- Conducted a review meeting to present final process

The customer agreed with proposed changes in work processes and took actions required to reduce error levels and increase productivity. Metrics will be monitored for a period of six months to assess improvement.
