want them to do because they want to do it.

Front line supervisors/managers in any organization have a dramatic impact on employee performance. For most employees, the immediate supervisor represents their closest connection to the company - its goals, its values, and its policies.

Because of this, front line supervisors play a key role in employee performance, retention, and morale. In fact, some research shows that front line supervisors are the #1 reason people leave their jobs. They also can create huge legal liabilities for a company if they don't understand the impact of their actions.

Since supervisors are often promoted from within an organization, they can face jealousy and resentment from former peers. They also may lack the "people" skills required to establish productive relationships and the business skills required for effective delegation and monitoring of work. Often, the "expert" technician is promoted to supervision and fails. The "shining star" becomes the "boob" who cannot earn anyone's respect.

The LDI Management/Supervisory Series is a comprehensive training program designed to provide front line managers/supervisors with competencies they need to guide, direct, and motivate employees.

It helps them avoid the most common supervisory mistakes:

  • Overuse of power
  • Failing to ask for feedback
  • Delegating without giving authority
  • Criticizing employees publicly
  • Using a single management style for everyone
  • Siding with team members who are friends
  • Promoting an “us” versus “them” attitude

Each section of the program includes courses that provide learners with skills required to perform each supervisory role:

  • Personal Effectiveness- Establishing productive relationships and communicating effectively in a variety of situations

  • Managing Performance– Setting clear goals and expectations, monitoring performance, providing effective feedback, and resolving performance problems

  • Managing Resources– Monitoring tasks, time, and money to keep projects running smoothly – on time and within budget

  • Managing the Work Environment– Creating and maintaining a safe and productive work environment that respects the contributions and rights of all employees
